Great Books and the Global War on Terror

Speaker: Dr. Philip Lisagor, "Great Books and the Global War on Terror." Dr. Philip Lisagor, a long-time resident of Squaw Valley and Verdi, Nev., is a thoracic surgeon who was Chief of Surgery at the Jersey City Medical Center on September 11, 2001, the second busiest hospital in the country on that day. Lisagor will lead a discussion of some important themes from great books from the Bible all the way to the New Army Marine Corps Field Manual of Counterinsurgency Warfare. 6:30 to 7 pm: No host bar, program begins at 7 pm at Resort at Squaw Creek. $10 donation requested. Children and students (with ID) free.

Annual Art Bark Fest

Over 20 animal themed booths with a benefit wine tasting and free live music. Festival includes a dog jump competition, Busy Bee Dog Show and a Squaw Valley Rescue Dog Demonstration. Event benefits the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe and Squaw Rescue Dong. $30 includes a commemorative wine glass for wine tasting participants. 11 am - 5 pm.

Truckee Renaissance Faire

The Truckee Renaissance Faire takes place Saturday, September 20 from 10 am to 6 pm, and Sunday, September 21 from 10 am to 5 pm in the Truckee River Regional Park. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for those under 12 and over 65. Truckee Renaissance Faire does not allow pets on the fairgrounds. This is a non-smoking event.

"Los Medicos Voladores" with Speaker Bob Horvath
Bob Horvath is a 64-year-old entrepreneur/engineer who flies his twin engine private plane into remote villages of Mexico where Los Medicos Voladores (Flying Doctors) provide free medical service to its inhabitants. Los Medicos Voladores has been providing medical services since 1978 and Bob has flown 33 missions since 1994. Bob carried the Olympic torch through Truckee for the 2000 Olympic Games in honor of six Los Medicos volunteers who died in a plane crash. No host bar from 6:30 to 7 pm, program begins at 7 pm at Resort at Squaw Creek. $10 donation requested. No charge for children and students with ID.
